Khonya is a historical Farsi word with the meaning of Song, Poetry and rhythmic words and the name Khonyagaran has been used a lot in Iranian literature.
Khonya is the name of the musical group which is headed by Pari Maleki.
Khonya musical group started as an initiative musical group for ladies with the goal of exploring the talents within ladies in the field of Music in 1994.
This group with the co-operation of several male musicians, co-vocalists and instrument players has been able to perform various concerts from 2000.
Khonya musical group has tried to bring out a new way of playing Iranian traditional music and has introduced a new path in the field of traditional music. In this path there has been a use of Iranian folk music as well.
The group members are mainly from the young generation with new creative ideas. Khonya musical group tries to show the new method of playing the Iranian traditional music and also to maintain the history of Iranian traditional music in the world.
Khonya musical group has been known as one of the most successful traditional music groups in Iran.
This group has had more than 150 concerts inside Iran and other countries.
For the first time Pari Maleki has performed as a vocalist in the Europe tours in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and U.K.
The performance was appreciated by the Iranians living in the said countries because of the impact of Iranian traditional music for non-residents Iranians and also the women activities in Iran. After that on a formal invitation from the Ecole Normale Superieure, Khonya went to Paris to perform. In August 2005 during the international music festival Murat on another formal invitation Khonya was asked to perform during the music festival with 2 different programs.
Due to the warm welcome of French people they were asked to perform in Saran city and because of un-planned programs they had to perform in several more programs in order to introduce Iranian traditional music to music lovers.
Another time, in spring 2006 Khonya had another Europe tour to perform in Switzerland and several cities of Germany. During the same period (13th April, 2006) on an invitation from the UNESCO office in Paris, Khonya performed in this organization for the appraisal ceremony of Ave Sina. The latest performances of this group were in Germany, Switzerland, England and Belgium. In August 2009 Khonya had Concert in Buskers Bern festival of BERN, Switzerland.
